Photo Montage Sketches

Greeting's everyone! Excited to be posting my first blog post. I spent a good amount of time going through various works of art and ideas for this first project. I used a few different pices of art because I couldn't make up my mind.
Using Elijah being Fed by Ravens, I saw myself and my cat, Boots, on my couch. For this photomontage, my sketch outlines Eliah now sittting on a couch. The branch remains, but the raven has been replaced by a cat. Admittedly, I am undecided about how this should go overall. I kind of want to leave Elijah in the same background and just insert a couch. Alternatively, I could move him elsewhere and create a new background around him.
Next up, I used Trope l'Oeil of an Etching by Ferdinand. Looking at this simplistic piece, I was reminded of a Wanted poster. For this montage, I'd photoshop my face in place of that of the subject.
I also really enjoyed The Annunciation. The body language of both of the subjects presented a conversation in my head. I used the Harry Potter series as an example of a debate about which is better; the book or movie version. This isn't a debate that I have in real life but I know some people do. The squares at the bottom of the piece are represetative of the four figures in the painting. I will label them as four of the five largest movie studios in the country, signing checks, because capitalism is going to profit from us regardless of anything.
The Pointe Salario also provided me with inspiration. I decided to think about a lesson straight from Module one. I would tak a tropical scene and add it under the bridge as the destination that's being sailed to.
The Huntsmen and the Herdsmen and The Healing of the Paralytic both also provided inspiration. The size of the man in the Healing got me thinking about scaling. He is much larger than the place he's leaving. First I thought literally which led me think about about a tv show I really enjoy called Attack on Titan. For one sketch, I'd move the man from the Healing into the Herdsmen along with Titans from the show. It would create a scene of the villagers fleering. The second idea was more incorporative of myself. I really enjoy reading and could see a bundle that large being filled with many books or a very large book for me to read.

Module 2 Sketches: Event Poster

  I am creating event posters for Harlem Week, a yearly celebration of Harlem music, culture, arts, history, and more that has taken place yearly since 1974. I wanted to choose an event that felt personal to me.  1. My first two sketches are 80's inspired. Inspiration for this one came from the old TV show, YO! MTV Raps . The background elements are not just squiggles, but classic 80's style shapes and designs similar to those here .  2. My second design was also 80's inspired. This picture serves as the biggest inspiration. The style of the font would be different. I would also want to incorporate elements of the city within the background of the circle.  3. Both of these sketches are inspired by the arts. On image three, the sides of the page are lined with tickets that say admit one. I would lower the opacity of these so they don't stand out. Photomontage Final Edit

Typically whenever I’m writing or designing something, my sketches and the final look very different. This time was no different. I decided to go with the Horsemen and Herdsmen, as I wanted something with a lot of open space for my first Photoshop project. While I initially had ideas involving depth and scaling, I realized it felt too ambitious for my first project. I leaned into elements of my favorite animated movie, Alice in Wonderland (1951). I still played with scaling, using their famous potion as the reason I am so tall in the background. While I initially tried using the oil painting and other filters on myself, I decided to add some noise and other adjustments to the photos to give it a grittier look that more closely matches the original photo. I liked the parallel between the animated elements and the original painting and left the colors mostly alone, but I did add some drop shadows for a realistic feel. Wix Blog

This is the link to my Wix Site  In creating my blog, I wanted to find something that felt like me. I  mentioned being from New York throughout this course and thinking back to my event poster gave me an idea for my main page. I used a brick wall photo, some AI generative fill, and a downloaded font to make it look as though I'd spray painted. I wanted this to have a retro effect.  Working on logos is hard. I watched a few videos and kept it simple, using my initials and a circle. While it might look simple, searching for fonts can be very time-consuming. There was a lot of work done in comparing the fonts to see which ones would work for me.  With the About Me section, I again wanted to add more elements of myself. I put myself into a calmer background and used the color of my shirt as the background color for my actual about me section.
